Cowruption
A platformer where you can accept corruption to make the levels easier
Ah, Cowruption...!!
I wanted to participate in the A2B2 game jam since I thought the website was cool and it was a pretty niche community. Plus the games would be played by Vinny Vinesauce, and I love the guy!
It started out with me doing code, my friends Emilie for art and David for music. However Emilie realized she had a party she had to go to so only managed to give us the main character's sprites, and also level 2 background on the last day (aka the toilets).
When she left though, the team went from 3 people to 6!! Everyone on our discord wanted to participate even though they weren't really *good* artists. The end result is a collage of several different styles!
This was a lot of fun for everyone who participated. David learned Godot and made levels, how cool is that!! Everyone learned Aseprite as well !!
The sad part is that Vinny didn't play it on stream. That was pretty sad but it's understandable. The end result isn't that fun to play, and looks pretty funky, to euphemize. I wanted wall jump but Godot's KinematicBody2D had trouble recognizing my walls, so I made it with raycasts. This makes it so that you have to hold the direction to the wall you're on WHILE jumping to wall jump... Unintuitive.
I realize now that I should have exported it to Web and he probably would have played it... Oh well!!!!
Fun fact : I'm still the number one speedrunner for the game in the "No Corruption" category!!
You can play it here :)
